Technical Background

The Mario Paint Remix base, just like its title suggests, was made with Mario Paint Composer, and most of its notes are actually genuine 16-bit sounds from the Mario Paint video game (other notes are unique to Mario Paint Composer). Just like all Super Nintendo Entertainment System/Super Famicom games, Mario Paint music (and thus this base) is based on Adaptive Differential Pulse-Code Modulation, the type of sample synthesis used by the SNES's Sony 700 SPC 700 sound coprocessor. This made the SNES stand out from other 16-bit gaming platforms, which mostly relied on either FM synthesis (Sega Genesis/Mega Drive, Sound Blaster-equipped IBM PCs, NEC PC-98) or advanced PSG (NEC TurboGrafx-16/PC Engine).
